What is WFT in paint? How to Calculate WFT?

DFT- Dry Film Thickness

👉Here I am going to talk about WFT. 

In paint application WFT is major calculation. So, we have to know about it. 

Wet film thickness, or WFT is the measured thickness of any applied wet paint that is liquid-based. WFT(ASTM D 4414) is measured by WFT Gauge using unit micrometer. paint has thickness from 2 micron to more that 5000 micron. WFT is depend on require DFT of coated paint. Suppose, Coil coating primer is require DFT of  3/4 millimicron and Floor mask epoxy or PU require more than 5000 millimicron. So, to fulfill customer requirement and application guideline of  DFT we have to change WFT parameter.

If ,Vs after thinning is 50.9%    Require DFT is- 80 Micron     %Thinning- 10

So, How will keep WFT?

                        DFT * (100-% Thinning)                              

WFT=        -------------------------------------

                                            Vs

                            80*  (100-10)

        =          ----------------------------

                                    50.9

        = 131.98

So, to fulfill customer require DTF 80, where  paint Vs, and % thinning fixed as shown you have to keep WFT 131.98 micron.
